Day 12 - Creating a Press Kit

A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not on the branch but on her own wings.  Always believe in yourself.

A week ago, my hairdresser contacted me and asked if I could provide her my business information (bio, picture, etc.) for her newsletter. Each week she features different clients in her newsletter and she thought it would be a good opportunity for me to promote my business. While I was really excited for this opportunity, she unfortunately needed it in one day. I wasn't prepared to put this together, especially since it was a Friday afternoon when she contacted me and I was heading out for the evening. This really got me to thinking - why don't I have a press kit ready to go at a moment's notice?!?

If I'm going to consider Theresa Rose Designs a serious business (and I do!), then it's imperative that I have press information ready for people the minute they ask for it. You never know when you can get that unexpected phone call from a business, newspaper, magazine, fundraiser, you name it - and they don't want to wait while you take a few days to put it together.

So, I was definitely inspired to take the time and put together a professional package that can be sent out in a timely manner. Fortunately, I already have the photographs, so it was really just a matter of writing up my bio and contact information in a professional format.

There are a few different items I wanted to have. These include:
  1. Professional headshot
  2. Jewelry pictures
  3. Contact information
  4. Bio - this includes my 'why', how I got into the business.
  5. Shop Information
  6. Shop Reviews - copied from Etsy site

By having all this information ready to go, I can tweak it quickly to customize it to the request. I will no longer be taken off guard and lose an opportunity to promote my shop.

How about you? Do you have a  press kit for your business?
